The man who can smile at his breaks and grab his chances gets on.
Samuel Goldwyn
I was impressed to see the entrepreneurship of this man --he had himself a bicycle tire patching business with only a few inner tubes hung on a tree trunk, some simple tools spread on a sheet under a tree! And of course, he was busy with his little cell phone while waiting for customers. Every time I went past his spot on the sidewalk I hoped he had enough people stopping by so he could earn enough!

She may be living in a shack by the roadside, selling pots that she and her family members crafted right there- but she had a place to sit comfortably - a two seat bench discarded from some automobile and again a cell phone to keep her busy while she waited for customers. What I also noticed is that her surroundings were spic and span, and the recycled materials used on the tent were very neatly assembled and tied together. I admired the relentless resourcefulness!

Hello Meera, I just love the way you explain your sketches to us. I get such an education checking your blog. Always enjoy seeing through your eyes and expressions.
I hope your day is as special as you are.
Thank you Carol! This has given me a new perspective on the country where I was born and spent my childhood and adolescence. I am amazed at what an education I have been having because of this sketch book journal!
Cell phones have taken over everyone's lives in India! I sometimes wonder how people existed without them a few years ago because everyone has one in their hands whatever work they are doing wherever they are hanging out!
Beautiful sketches Meera!
Padmaja, thanks! It is interesting to see how people are using the cell phones -- I won't complain much because I use it too -- the kindle in my smart phone means I can read anywhere and the sketch app means I can pretend to be texting but am really sketching -- as I am somewhat uncomfortable sketching in public with a sketchbook and paints in hand!!! So I always give people the benefit of doubt!
They look very relaxed to be sitting there all day. I guess the cell phone helps her pass the time. Great sketches as usual.
Kathy, I think that's wag caught my attention in a way how comfortable and relaxed they looked with their innovative little spot on the sidewalk; ;) thanks for stopping by and for your interesting observation :)
