Eyes Wide Open

Street Cricket watercolor by Meera Rao

I am excited that my painting Street Cricket was chosen for the Tidewater Artists Alliance Juried Exhibition "Eyes Wide Open" Portsmouth Art and Cultural center, Portsmouth VA.  The show was juried by Professor Brian Kreydatus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and will be up till April 20th. The center also has an outdoor sculpture exhibition that is pretty neat too.

On the topic of play, Here is a link for a really fun and fantastic TED talk on the importance/interactivity of play and creativity by Tim Brown.

It is a happy talent to know how to play.

Hello Meera, congratulations and also thanks for sharing that TED talk on creativity, I really enjoyed it. I watch a lot of TED talks myself from ones that are three minutes long to longer ones like this one. They are almost always fascinating. Enjoy your day!

Congrats Meera, it is a stunning perspective and the viewer is made to be in that onlooker's position, the piece is full of action!

Padmaja, Thank you! It was one of the pieces where things fell in piece -- tweaking the elements was the most fun!

I love that title for this piece. Street Cricket. Congratulations on the show! Yes, about the importance of play... I worry that our new generations don't even know what the word means anymore. Makes me want to go volunteer at a school, not to help kids with reading and math, but to play Kick-the-can, and Spud, and Ring Around the Rosy!

Meera how exciting is that?? The piece surely deserves it. It is so amazing and I love all your art.

Thank you Katherine :) I think it's not just kids who need to play though - I think we adults need to remember that too and that's where the joy in life, work, art radiates from:)

Congratulations Meera! I love this piece! I am reminded of a time my husband went to India for work. He was gone two weeks and seemed so far away. He had the chance to learn cricket and played many times while he was there. He loved it and wouldn't trade his time in India for anything.

Thank you Lisa :) That is such a fun story you have -- may be one day you will get to visit India too -- you will love to sketch it I am sure :)
