Different Perspectives

Hanging Beauties  6x4" watercolor

Delicate Beauty  4x4" watercolor

Lately I have been hearing again and again how we should shut off all the technological distractions like cell phones, computers, iPads, television etc and concentrate only creating. But is artistic creativity only confined to the traditional platforms? In today's society, what is the artist's responsibility for showing different perspectives; for using various newer media in creative ways for making a statement; for helping the world learn to empathize?  A TED Talk by Artist Raghava  KK    "Shake Up Your Story" shows off  his children's book idea for iPad. The brilliant creativity he displays  showcases how to expose children to various perspectives on morality, culture, religion etc in a playful, kid-friendly way.  What a wonderful way as an artist to open minds.

I love the colors in these pieces! And you've brought up some interesting ideas about art and technology. What I find exciting about "progress" of any sort is that it gives you new ways of doing things, while it ideally still leaves you the option of doing things in an older, more traditional way, as well.

Angela, I too am very excited about technology and feel distressed when I hear about complaints about 'progress'. I have a learning curve and am little slow in learning let alone mastering new things but I love to see what others can do :) I couldn't have this network of artists and support from world over if not for the wonderful technology! I would not have it any other way!

Hi Meera,
How are you...This concept of thinking different in perspective and the colors you used are looking different and good.....

I love the way you can see the colors dance on the paper. Beautiful.
I think that when you're painting or doing anything creative you need to find a way to work that works for you. You could be a technological wizard and still want peace and quiet to create. It does not have to be the same for everyone, nor does it need to be the same all the time.

Anudeepa. Thank you :) I am trying to paint loose and with minimal sketching hoping for lost and found edges!

Thanks Kathy! You are right about each to his own and time solely to create with minimum distractions. But I think there is also merit in learning to see creative possibilities in everything and incorporating into our various expressions --to create something traditional or not.

Some artists are born to make a big difference to the world and they are gifts of God!
Your loose style looks very free and cheerful! I am sure the time spent on this one was away from distractions :-)

Padmaja, I think all artists make an impact -however small or big :) I usually listen to some podcast or radio show or music on my ipod when I paint but I know I zone out quite a bit since I often rewind and try to listen again if something catches my ear suddenly!!!
