Sky is the Limit digital photography
I go through my collection of photographs and ideas compulsively many times before I decide on my next painting subject or what to post on my blog. Of course, every now and then I do know what, which, and how almost instinctively. I am also acutely aware that when I am drawing and painting, the ability to choose well -- the right stroke of the pencil or the brush, the correct value and color, and when to say enough is critical. Sometimes the desire to choose well is so strong that it interferes with the act of creating even as I keep telling myself its only paper and paint! This past week while at the library picking up "The Art of Choosing" by Sheena Iyengar was an easy decision to make. I am hoping by the time I finish reading it I will have insights into becoming a better and disciplined 'chooser' in both mundane and momentous tasks - and not just in my art :)

B, I too love looking up to the tree tops --Love that view -- have way too many pics like that :) So far, I am enjoying the book --lots of anecdotes and research info makes the book very interesting and easy read.

That will make a wonderful painting, Meera, hope you will do it soon! I believe that choosing situations in life is all about what we need to learn and once you choose, you are stuck with it till you learn! But with painting,I can choose something instinctively that makes me happy at that point of time but yet I can choose to discard what I created if it didnt give me the expected happiness.. wish life was like that :-)

Me too :) I will have to start taking notes now as I read the book ! I think that will make me a better reader and better 'chooser' too I hope.
That is an amazingly beautiful photo! I would love to see you paint it. I have such a hard time choosing things to paint too, sometimes I just have to close my eyes and point :) jk. I would love to hear what you learn from that book too.
Thank you Crystal! I would like to paint it too but sometimes I feel some photographs are best left alone. And I have played 'close my eyes and turn and open them and sketch whatever is in view' at a airport or some waiting area :)

While looking at the picture.. and what you had to say about choices and selections between colors, values and styles and how concentrating on that might take your mind away from the basic idea of art.. I was thinking about 'nature' and how it must have designed our surroundings. Isn't it wonderful that it took care of everything so amazingly well !!
