I deliberately set about sketching and painting this scene in a distorted way but I think I was still too rigid and careful. It is funny how distortions creep in when I don't want to in my regular sketching and how I had to struggle to make it happen this time! And it is deeply tragic when the disastrous earthquakes in Haiti and Chile are not anyone's imagination. I worked on this painting long before the earthquakes just as an exercise but now I feel quite rattled and shaken as I see the destruction and read about the struggles of the people there.

Meera, I just love your distortions. I have a harder time than you capturing distortions. I know what reality looks like but distortions are something different. I see them in my mind but have a hard time painting them.
Isn't it a tragedy about Haiti and now Chile. When the earthquake happened in Haiti I was obsessed with watching it on tv. My heart went out to all the people and suffering. But now that it has happened in Chile I cannot even look at it. It is just too painful to accept.

for me this looks the walls that surround the holy city in Jerusalem. The blues are vivid like the mediterrarean skies...

Liked this one. There is certain beauty in irregularity. Nature is irregular and random to an extent, and its beautiful.
Though I can imagine your feelings after comparing this picture with the fallen structures in Haiti and China.
