One of Many Faces

Last week, when I was almost done with this self-portrait, my husband took his first glance at it and said "no, this is not you. That look is a very rare expression. You always have a big smile" Since then my smile has been even bigger -if thats possible.

I started sketching using a mirror and then used the camera eye on my computer to snap a photograph so I had a reference photo to use in completing it. I tried warm color for underpainting on the hair and eyes and cool on the background before finishing with black grape as final layers. Some day I will try again with my big smile :)

It is an amazing portrait. It's hard ot believe it's in colored pencils. I had to double click on it to see the colored pencil look to it. I have never seen you before except for your photo. You do have a different look in the painting. More pensive and somber than you look in your photo.
Good job.

Thank you so much Kathy - you made my day :) I guess thats my look when I am by myself or concentrating on sketching and painting!!!

I adore your self portrait. I think it is wonderful. It is done just as you set out to do it and not the least contrived. Very pleased with the work in the glasses as well, they are a suggestion of glasses and do not overpower the spirit of the subject, you. Nice work.

Nice nice!

I'm curious - was there any particular aspect of yourself/your personality/your art that you were trying to capture?

Thanks Greeshma! yes, I think that was a good comment from Kishore too. He usually says it like he sees it - and I value that :)

Meera you have done an amazing job of self portrait, but you always have a smile on your face

Thanks Sudha :) Really appreciate your comment. I guess my smile comes out when I am around people :) not when I am alone in my studio and concentrating/struggling to get the strokes right, no?
